Police Rescue Zamfara Council Chairman as APC Senate Primary Turns Chaotic

Police in Zamfara State have intervened to rescue the chairman of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Mannir Haidara, after angry youths reportedly attempted to attack him during the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election.
The incident occurred on Monday in Kaura Namoda, where party delegates had gathered to select the APC candidate for the Zamfara North Senatorial District.
Witnesses said trouble began when Mr Haidara addressed delegates and supporters, urging them to back the incumbent senator, Sahabi Ya’u Kaura, who is seeking the party’s nomination.
However, supporters of his rival, Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura, rejected the appeal, accusing the council chairman of attempting to impose a candidate on the party.
The confrontation reportedly escalated as some youths moved towards Mr Haidara, prompting police officers and other security personnel to intervene and escort him away from the venue.
The contest between the two politicians has generated tension in Zamfara North, which comprises Kaura Namoda, Birnin Magaji, Shinkafi and Zurmi local government areas.
Calm was later restored, although security personnel remained at the venue to prevent further disturbances.
The outcome of the primary election was not immediately known.
